Today’s focus came from a post in the Mosaic app by Maria Thomas. She illustrated a new way of drawing Molygon, which she referred to as articulated! I love this idea! It ends up looking a bit like a string of beads, or a caterpillar, depending on what you decide to draw inside of each segment. I needed something to put behind it, and the very first tangle out of the jar was Locar! Absolutely perfect for this situation!
Succulents. When you group a bunch of Locar tangles together they look a bit like cactus or succulents! The techniques that I used on this tile are based on Eni Oken’s Distressed Tile Video . However, I didn’t follow the instructions exactly. (It’s probably a good thing I wasn’t baking a cake!) I already had this tile on my desk, with the Locars already drawn on it in brown pigma pen. I really wanted to play, but I also needed to complete this monotangle for this blog post.
I‘ll have the cabernet. Actually, this is more the color of Welch‘s Grape Juice! I really liked this color combination. The gray and purple played nicely with each other and allowed for a good amount of contrast. Zentangle drawn on gray print making paper using wine and gray Copic multiliner pens. Something fishy. This tile didn‘t start out to be an underwater scene. I was trying to decide which tangle to put in the space where the “eye” is. In the process of rotating the tile around and thinking, I realized it looked a bit like an underwater scene and the Shattuck reminded me of scales. So I added the “eye” (which is now a tangle called Caviar!) and the Fescu to look a bit like a fin. That completed the illusion for me.
Inner ocean. Another one by the sea! This tile makes me think of viewing under the deep ocean on a microscopic basis. From single-celled creatures to tiny plants and even prismatic organic elements, they all seem to float towards a net that was cast from a vessel above. Butterfly bones. Every time I look at this tile, I feel like it‘s a drawing of the remains of a butterfly or a moth. This tile includes one of my original tangles: Barbd. Browns. I wanted to experiment with different tonal values. Since Micron makes two different brown pens, I though combining those with black would be interesting. No borders. By now I‘m sure you‘ve noticed that I usually draw a border around the edge of my tiles. I‘ll admit, I‘m trying to contain my drawing and keep it under control. Having that border does that for me. But every so often, I have to escape and live life on the edge. My art will often reflect that.
