Another Beginner’s class tile #2! A fascinating thing about the Zentangle method is that no matter how many times you draw a particular tile, it will always be slightly different!

This is my Tuesday morning Zentangle meditation class. These people are so wonderful to be with! They love learning, tangling and each other which makes being with them a total joy.
This week, they used an “A” shaped string and learned Bales, Ennies, Fescu and Printemps. The two tiles (one unfinished) in the lower right are mine.
I love how each of them is not afraid to try whatever variation they think of. They are adventurous spirits who are fearless students!
Emerald Isle.
There is so much about Ireland that has influenced culture all over the world. Literature, music and dance come to mind. In the United States about 33 million Americans claim some Irish ancestry. These ancestors came to the U.S. as immigrants, and brought with them their heritage. In speech, dress, religion, foods and traditions they influenced the American way of life permanently.
Just as any other cultural group that is different from the main, the suffered prejudice. Irish Catholics were mocked in public schools. During the mid 1850s, the Know Nothing Movement tried to oust Irish Catholics from public office. Irish women were stereotyped as constant breeders and girls were considered to be industrious and moral. On the other hand, men were often thought of as drunk, always fighting, lazy and shiftless.
Shore.
She stood on at the edge, watching the waves come and go. The the ebb and surge took everything. The flowers were washed away as easily as the webs she wove at court. Perhaps the tide pools would hold treasures she could use to free herself.

Easy.
Some times, when you are tangling, you just want to do something simple, easy and relaxing. While I really love yesterday’s Zentangle, it was fairly time-consuming. As a result, I wanted the next one to just be something I could do to completely relax. I also didn’t feel like spending as much time on a single tile. And that’s perfectly OK!
So, even though it is simple, there is still a lot of depth and dimension. I like the way the Paradox section almost looks like the head of a strange bird. And Ennies looks like a ball-pit or a pool filled with pearls! Nekton is one of my favorite, go-to tangles, it looks like tossed bits of reed or straw.
Contrasts.
This tile has a very simple string. I decided that I would use the simplest, geometric tangle in the upper left area and then mirror two of the other tangles in the lower right. I put the most complex tangle in the middle section. I really like the end result!

Leaves.
Take a close look at the string used for this Zentangle. Do you see it? I traced around a leaf template to create the basic string. The Ennies at the bottom left was added because I felt it needed something there, so it‘s in addition to the leaves.

Elegance.
This tile is unusual in that it doesn‘t have my regular border around it. I wanted to try a very rounded, loopy design because I thought it would appear more elegant with the black and gold tangles.

I think I‘ll stay away from black tiles.
Every so often, I think I can do something cool with a black tile. And every so often, I‘m disappointed. I know that I can do better work than this. It just didn‘t real work on any level.
