This tile was done by Amanda. I absolutely love it. She decided to experiment with having both a light and a dark background on the same tile, and I think it worked really well. I love the way it shows off the white “ribbons” of tangles on top of the dark areas. I am also super impressed by the intertwining of all the elements! Giving thanks. I have so many things to be thankful for this year, it would make a very long post to list them all. So I am going to tell you that I am grateful for my wonderful husband, beautiful daughters, and fabulous grandchildren. I am thankful for my good health and good life. I also am very thankful that I discovered Eni Oken. She is a fabulous artist that shares herself, her talent and her knowledge with others. Over this year, learning from her has taken my art to a whole ’nother level, as they say. This tile is another one based on her Tan Treasure video lesson . I think this is my favorite of all the techniques I’ve learned so far!
There be dragons! This tile is directly inspired by Eni Oken’s Tangled Dragons blogpost . I’ve been wanting to give it a go for quite a while, but just haven’t had time until yesterday. It was a little tricky figuring out how to do the overlapping loops, but I think it worked out well, over all! I think I want to try one with some color next time. Maybe I will try some distress inks with it!
Distress Inks. This tile is a combination of techniques beginning with Tim Holtz Distress Inks, Spray Stains, and markers. In addition, several other products were used including Polychromos colored pencils, a variety of gel pens, Sharpies, and Zig markers. The techniques used are from Eni Oken‘s ebook, "3D Tangle: Tangling over Distressed Tiles." While this technique still involves drawing tangles on a small piece of paper, it is far from the original Zentangle Method.
What do you see? I love this tile. I‘ve had a blast asking people what they see when they look at it. I‘ve gotten a lot of different answers. What makes this tile work so well is all the contrasting areas that are well balanced across the tile. The patterns are all fairly bold, and have areas of dark and light.
