This week’s I Am The Diva Challenge is “Orbs”. These simple spherical shapes are a fundamental of the Zentangle Method. For this tile, I chose tangles that are created completely from orbs, with some minor ornamentation. It was really good practice, and got me back into the swing of drawing these shapes with total concentration. The sepia color was a bit of a happy accident… I picked up what I thought was a black pen and started drawing… So I just kept on going!
Hydroponics. It had been months since she had taken the ship out on a mission. But it was time. Everything in the ydroponics bay was ready. And she knew the eggs would hatch right after her arrival. The Zed’s wanted them all newborn before they would accept delivery. Zentangle drawn on Strathmore Vellum Bristol using a black, Micron pen. Shading done with graphite pencil. Choice. She looked down at the floor and realized that there were so many choices, all woven together, that could make up the whole. While each one was different they were all part of the fabric of her life. So far this year, I’ve done very few “regular” Zentangles. When I completed this one, and showed it to my daughter, she asked me, " Does it feel weird to do black and white now?" That was an interesting question because it was something that I was actually thinking about when I did it! And, the answer was, “Yes, it is a bit strange because I’ve been moving so far away from it lately.”
Fishing. We cast our net into the sea, searching for Ix to sell in the market. As we hauled the nets abord, we discovered a treasure trapped within. The Marasu was worth more than everything else in our nets, combined! This one, being so large, was probably worth even more than our ship! All of the fisher folk would share in this bounty when we reached the shore. Zentangle drawn on Strathmore Vellum Bristol using a black, Micron pen. Shading done with graphite pencil.
Portals. The window was made of many openings. As she looked through each portal, she wondered why it was different from the others. What were those strange patterns. What kind of life forms were there. So many questions in need of answers. I love this form of Hollibaugh, using rounding to create graceful openings between the crossed bars. Lace and pearls. They could see the honeycomb living towers through the window. Her pearls and lace-trim dress tossed on the floor. And while the great orb turned, they slept. Their dreams were filled with the lives of the rich and powerful. Zentangle drawn on Strathmore Vellum Bristol using a black, Micron pen. Shading done with graphite pencil. Vertical. I actual tangled this tile with all the designs going horizontally. When I was finished, and rotated the tile around, I realized that it worked from EVERY position. That‘s unusual, and it gave me a big thrill. I almost didn‘t shade it, just because it was cool! I finally settled on this position, but if you turn your head, you will be able to see what I mean!
Symmetry. Not really, but this string gives you an illusion of symmetry because of the repetition of patterns on each side of the tile. Zentangle drawn on Official Zentangle tile using a black, Micron pen. Tangles: Centipede Florz Kule Meer Scallops Shard Tink
Browns. I wanted to experiment with different tonal values. Since Micron makes two different brown pens, I though combining those with black would be interesting. I shaded this tile with brown colored pencils. Zentangle drawn on Official Zentangle tile using brown, sepia and black Micron pens. Tangles: Centipede Flora Isochor Lacy Locar Purk Ripple Shattuck
Spiders. Everytime I see this, I think there is a spider lurking about, waiting for her eggs to hatch. Zentangle drawn on Official Zentangle tile using a black, Micron pen. Tangles: Aah Afterglow Black Box Black-eyed Peas Centipede Hibred Huggins Munchin Poke-Root
