Today, I took Eni Oken's Art Raffle app for a spin. This tile is the result! For my first tile in eons, it’s not bad! If you tangle, you should get this FREE app, it’s lots of fun! I’ve posted Zentangles with a design similar to this tile before, here and here . In addition, the other two examples have no shading or highlights. So I needed and example that included these additions. I’m doing it again because I’m using it on a class project and I wanted it on a 3Z for my students to observe and discuss. Zentangle drawn on black, Strathmore, Artagain paper using a white, Sakura, gel pen. Shading done with Copic Markers and black colored pencil. Highlighting done with General’s Charcoal White.
She had traveled down the hall of the long good bye for such a long time. She slept and awoke and walked towards the door in the House of Waiting. The vastness pulled at her spirit and she longed to be free. She would not miss anything here. She had completed her mission. She would leave it all behind. It had been her life. But now, she was free to fly.
Template. If you look closely at the string I used for this tile, you‘ll see two vases. I traced around a vase-shaped template, reversing and overlapping it for the second shape. I‘ll have the cabernet. Actually, this is more the color of Welch‘s Grape Juice! I really liked this color combination. The gray and purple played nicely with each other and allowed for a good amount of contrast. Zentangle drawn on gray print making paper using wine and gray Copic multiliner pens. Speed. Every so often, I like to challenge myself when I tangle. For this tile, I challenged myself to speed up from my regular slow-and-deliberate style. This mostly worked well, except for coloring the Knightsbridge. That was just slow so I wouldn‘t go outside the lines. I also experimented with adding a bit of white highlights. I‘m not sure how I feel about them yet. Zentangle drawn on Strathmore Vellum Bristol using a black, Zig Millennium pen.
Making brown pop. I‘ve tried tangling on various colored papers over the years, and sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn‘t. I cut a bunch of tiles from a pad of Saint-Armand Canal paper. They are various earthy, neutral colors. But the problem with the paper is that it is both very rough and very absorbant, so it‘s difficult to work with for Zentangles. But, every so often, I get brave and try it again.
Canal paper I have a pad of this paper that I purchased while visiting Santa Fe a couple of years ago. I liked the neutral tones and thought it would be fun to draw on. It turns out that the texture is a bit rough for tangling, although I made it work. I‘m not sure I like it for shading, or pencil drawing, though. I had a lot of trouble with that part.
Rhodochrosite. I have always been fascinated with beautiful stones. But it never occurred to me to draw them until recently. Now, I‘ve become obsessed with them, so I plan on challenging myself to draw and color more of them in the future!
