Impkin: Sky Singer

This is a Sky Singer. Sky Singers are the keepers of the day. They watch the skies for signs, to pass on to the Earth Keepers and the Plant Growers.

I often see many mythical creature impkins posted in Megan’s Crafty Intentions Facebook group. However, most of them are elven, forest, or magical beings from more northern European ideology.

I wanted to take this mythological concept in another, more tribal direction. When I saw the Painted Canyon color way from I Love This Yarn at Hobby Lobby, I knew exactly what I wanted to make.

This is the Type 2 Arms* with the Standing Body Type 2*. The ears are my own design. I’ve used them on another Impkin, and thought they would be suitable here, since I wanted ears, but I didn’t want to distract from the over-all design.

I used the Antennae Style 4* as feathers, and used the Short-Pieced Mane/Mohawk* pattern for the “fluff” at the bottom of the feathers.

To finish off the look, I hand painted the eyes. They have 3 aqua dots in front of a solid yellow background. It took me forever to get those dots just right, but hopefully I’ll figure out an easier way to make them for the future.

I also figured out, with this Impkin, how to make them stand up on their own. I’ve been wanting to do that for some time, but my crochet feet just weren’t flat enough. I finally figured that out, and then I put a glass pebble in each foot for weight. The combination worked very well!

I will be adding to this series in the future, so stay tuned!
