I did it! And with a minimum of frogging!
During the pupa stage the white, characterless maggot takes on the form of an adult fly. This is the pupa for my fly amigurumi. I love the way it’s little eyes peek out of the casing!
As you can see here, she is just beginning her transformation. After we’re done playing, she will go to sleep and wake up as an adult blue bottle fly.
Actually, the pattern I am using calls for the pupa to be made from rust red yarn. After looking a pupae on line, I decided that this variegated yarn would do nicely, since there are usually variations in the coloring of the casing.
Also, this yarn was the best I’ve tried. It is called “I Love This Yarn” and it can be found at Hobby Lobby. It is resilient and held up well when unraveled a few times. It didn’t split, probably because it is tightly wound. And it is nice and soft to the touch. It doesn’t hurt that it’s on sale for 30% off fairly often!
‘Night, ’night, little maggot!
