We celebrated Valentine’s Day yesterday because today a lot of rain and bad weather is expected. In addition, we wanted to avoid inflated prices, weird menus and big crowds.
One of the places we went was to the “big” Hobby Lobby that is a bit further from where I live. I like this store because it is huge, about the size of a grocery store and another store stuck together. (It really IS two stores with a couple of openings between them!)
I found this six-ring planner on clearance. It was originally $14.99. I liked the pattern and colors of it when I first saw it. But I never purchased it because it is a six-ring and not a traveler’s style, which I normally prefer.
Well, with the price reduced to $3.74, I felt like I couldn’t pass it up. Recently, I’ve seen several ring-type planners being used as art journals. Just like the Traveler’s style, you can remove the pages that you are done with and archive them, and put new in the book, while continuing to use the same cover.
The outside is a nice, artsy, black and white print of city buildings with some gold foil and pink accents.
The inside has hot pink colored pockets on top of black and white stripes. Some people might think this is too bright, but I think it will work just fine. For the price, I can even use some acrylic shoe paint and add some art right to the vinyl if I need to tone it down. It is a nice binder, with inner pockets, gold-colored rings, and decorative top-stitching.
My thinking is that I could grab a lot of the junk mail and turn it into “pages” to create art on, along with using mixed media and scrapbook paper, depending on what I felt like working with.
With that in mind, I also bought a package of pockets, and more important, an adjustable, six-ring punch. These were both on a 50% off sale. I think the punch is going to be very handy! The main purpose of the pockets is to give me an idea of the size to make the pages. They are 6.75 inches high by 4.25 inches wide. It looks like it would hold quite a few pages, even with a bit of texture on them, at one time.
Stay tuned, I’ll be reviewing that punch in a special article soon!
