This tile uses a basic technique referred to as a Zenbutton. CZT Marguerite Samama is credited as the inventor of this technique. She was experimenting with methods for using Fragments in different ways when she discovered it. You can watch an instructional video, created by Melinda Barlow, CZT, here , to see the basic technique. I’ve been thinking about trying it for a few days. Yesterday, I sat down and went for it.
Folds. They were all folded to catch the rays of the overhead light. The sole purpose was to attract the customers, drawing them in with bright colors and patterns. Wrapped up. This Zentangle is the result of two different Facebook posts. In one group, someone asked about shading a Zentangle that was drawn in blue ink. That got me to thinking about how I would handle the situation. So, for this tile, I’ve used blue ink. For the shading I used both colored pencil and graphite. I think the combination of the two allows for more dramatic depth than using the blue pencil alone.
Lines. I find it interesting how much texture and shape a repetitive group of lines can create! The Zentangle uses three tangles that use lines in various ways. No, it is not your imagination. You really are seeing a small bit of blue and red here. I used a bit of colored, pastel pencil along with the graphite shading in Isochor (red) and Olb (blue). I just wanted to experiment to see what would happend if I tried it.
It‘s complicated. When I‘m stressed, taking time to tangle becomes even more important. It allows me to decompress and step away from the chaos. However, my tile often reflects what‘s going on around me. This tile is a case in point. I‘m not feeling good, and there is a lot of “stuff” going on that has me not following my “normal” routine. Red. I recently saw a Zentangle tile that someone in a Facebook group had drawn in red. That was the first time that I‘ve seen a completely red tile. I thought it would be an interesting challenge to try my own. Shading with regular pencil looks a little strange, so I decided to try a red colored pencil. I chose a color that was a bit darker, and I think it worked very well.
Maui. This is the second day of the Moana movie‘s influence on my daily tile. This time, I used a few of the symbols from the movie directly, namely Maui‘s fish hook and the shell from Moana‘s necklace, represented by a mother of pearl Zen Gem. Unfortunately, the stone just didn‘t scan well. It is actually stunning. I used Pearl-X on top of the colored pencil and it came out fabulous!
It all adds up. Sometimes I create a tile with a lot of patterns, and it just doesn‘t work. This one has a lot of patterns, and I think it does work! It‘s kind of fun to discover all the different designs in this one. Zentangle drawing done with Micron pen on Zentangle™ Tile . Tangles: Drack D‘Rua Hypnotic Ibex Knase Stature Stonework Web
